The CRN project monitors strandings of marine wildlife.
A team of volunteers in Devon are trained to attend dead strandings of marine life including whales, dolphins, porpoises, sharks, seals, turtles and fish. Vital information is recorded and photos taken. Where suitable, we may arrange for the animal to be sent for autopsy at the Natural History museum in London with whom we work closely and share information as part of the Natural History Museum’s UK Whale and Dolphin Stranding Scheme.
Latest marine strandings
If you come across a marine stranding, please call the appropriate number from the list below immediately so that trained volunteers can attend quickly to attempt a rescue of live casualties, or to fully record dead ones before the tide removes them. This will enable us to monitor numbers and indicate which various factors are affecting populations.
